Plains Apache Moccasins, 1860 / Ex Charles Derby, MA / Published
Pre1870 Southern Plains objects are exceedingly rare to find. This pair of moccasins represents a rare example from the Plains Apache. The minimal beadwork, early bead colors and peach pigment are all highly sought after traits for objects originating from this region.
This particular pair has had an illustrious career. Published in Wooley’s “Eye of the Angel”, this pair eventually came into the personal collection of David West, a noteworthy Arizona-based dealer who handled some of the greatest Apache objects to come to market.
